  • Serabee, the Original Bayou Baby

    broken image

Raised in churches, juke joints, and tent revivals in Louisiana and Mississippi by her preacher, guitar-playing father and folk songwriter mother, Serabee is a stunning singer songwriter, and pianist that can be compared to: Ray Charles, Professor Longhair, Jerry Lee, and Dr. John. Her 'bring the house down' singing has been compared to Aretha, Tina Turner, and Susan Thedeski.

Serabee began performing in New Orleans and Mississippi clubs, where she developed a large following. A gifted songwriter, she has written and worked with Michael Bolton, Doug Morris (Universal), Craig Wiseman, Ben Margulies (Mariah Carey), Usher, Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty), Hugh Padgham (Sting, Kate Bush), and Stephanie Bentley (Faith Hill). One of her most cherished moments was meeting George Jones after finding out he loved one of her songs, “Water Under The Bridge,” and they promised each other a duet but the legendary singer passed away before they could make it happen.

    New Orleans

“New Orleans” is a homecoming song of sorts as she pines for the NOLA culture that is unique with its food, sounds, smells, and people. The original words are about Mardi Gras, but Sera felt it could also be a holiday song.
The video shows off The Big Easy as Sera walks down the city’s fabled streets – Canal – Frenchman, and Bourbon – reflecting on her friends, her music, and what the holidays mean to her. The video shows many recognizable locations: St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, and a meet-up with her friends at a local bar.

    I'm Closed

From Serabee herself: "I'm Closed" is about emotional maturity. It's not easy to deny someone you want and set boundaries, but protecting your heart is worth it. It's a lot tougher and requires much more self-love than it is to get affection in the short term. Musically it reminds me of Memphis, Mavis Staples, and The Rolling Stones. While writing, we thought of the times you show up late, and as they close up shop, it's like they are saying, 'Sorry bae, you missed the boat. Gone fishing…you ain't gotta go home, but you ain't staying here. Padlocked heart here tonight!'" I love how the lyrics are "see ya later gator" and a breakup song, but it's not a ballad or sad. It's fun & groovy, and you can dance to it with your friends and celebrate your new-found freedom!

    Bayou Baby

“A song idea that was written about me: a girl raised in the churches, juke joints, and tent revivals on the bayous of Louisiana and banks of the Mississippi by a Pentecostal preacher, guitar-playing father, and folk songwriter mother. A true hybrid of both father from Buras, Louisiana, and a Mother from Laurel, Mississippi. When you meet someone who takes you to church without a Bible – whether you are an unbeliever, a sinner, or a saint - it might spiritually challenge your faith in love. Still, it's always magical,” smiles Serabee, “and a little Dusty Springfield fairy dust goes a long way.” - Serabee

    This Christmas

This musical composition is from the heart by Serabee. More than just skillful and heart-touching vocals, piano skills, steel guitar playing by Dave Easley plus gifted music video team. This song has a "real" message during this season of 2020 and loved ones passed on - we are all affected and we all need some inspiration.
